I found the one I want. It's the Browning 1911-380. Again, this is for fun, not self defense. I handled one yesterday and it is a great quality firearm and the perfect size for plinking. I already reload for 380 so that is an added bonus. Now to save the pennies. +guns

Sounds and looks like fun!

Hey, I killed a feral hog with a 380 Auto, killed them with all the "Autos" except a 25 but just haven't had the chance to do that yet.

An interesting note is that the Browning 1911-380 is legal to hunt big game (deer, bear, elk, etc...) in Washington. I'm not saying that I would do that, but it's interesting. The requirements for handguns are minimum .24 caliber, minimum of 4" barrel length and center fire only.

Just as a follow up. I did a range report on another thread but about the Browning specifically, it is exactly what I was looking for. The size are weight are just perfect. It was a quality gun at a reasonable price ($560). I also like how it stayed true to the 1911 design. The other 380s look and feel similar to the 1911, but they were not built the same. You might say that they were "inspired by" the 1911. It will be fun to get to know the 1911 platform and see what features I like and don't like.

Every semi-auto wants to be a 1911 when it grows up :D . The design has stood the test of time. One hundred and eleven years defending American freedom and a few other places around the globe as well.

I carry a compact commander daily.

I'll grant you 104-105 and still going stronger than most designs less than half the age.
Heck there's more than a couple pistols both Colt and Remington came out with since 1980 or so that fared pretty ill compared with the good old 1911.
