Something Differnt

Post by DennisH »

This has been sitting at the local gun store for a long time so I gave it a home. A type 38 Arisaka someone did alot of work to. It was cheap and after only a few shots it keeps them all in a 3 inch circle at 120 yards. The only problem is I think it may have a weak firing pin because I've had a couple misfires. It seems like it hits kind of soft when you pull the trigger sometimes. So it won't be going hunting this year.

Good morning
Nice old jap ! Check the firing pin to be sure it does actually extend past the bolt face. Crud gets built up inside the bolt which may not have been disassembled for some years.

It is a 6.5x50. I really didn't know anything about them. It just had a nice look.
I did just take the bolt apart and there was a lot of dried grease in it. I have not got to try it out since. But on a dry fire it does sound much more solid when you squeeze the trigger.
Someone did some nice work to it at one time. I can see how you could spend a lot of money sporterizing an old military rifle and you would never get your money back. This one sat for almost a year and it was cheap.I took a chance on it and got lucky with it being a good shooter.

I don't think I'd be dry firing it much.
Last I checked 6.5 Jap ammo wasn't real common. You may want to lay in a store and maybe get reloading dies and components.
