Marlin 75C Project

Post by GasGuzzler »

Bought a 1983 75C (think Model 60 with a short 16.5" carbine barrel) with "finish issues" ......

.....for $90.00 shipped including a Bear Creek scope and tip off rings. Seller shipped before he even got my check in the mail (TX to TX deal). When it arrived it had a crack in the wrist and a piece broken off the trigger guard.

It wasn't worth shipping back or filing a $50.00 insurance claim with USPS so he tore up my check.

Right now I'm in the process of "resto-modding" it. So far I have bubba-blued the barrel and mag tube and refinished the receiver (blurry pic but it's semi-gloss).

It has a couple small dark spots in the bore but I cleaned most of that. A good used stock is on the way for cost of shipping and I can get a trigger from MidwayUSA for $30.00. By the time I get the stock refinished using materials I already have and the scope mounted with lower rings, I'll probably have $55 in it.

It is looking real nice GG.
Be a good little carbine for woods walking, light and fast handling.

Out of chicken....
She'll be plenty OK for something. I kinda like the Frankenstein idea of a 16" semi-auto .22 with a scope.

Gun and postage FREE (I will send the seller something later, likely $25)
Stock FREE plus shipping (I will send something to this guy too, likely $20).
NEW Trigger from MidwayUSA $27.50
New LOW scope rings to replace the med/high goofy ones $9.00
6-48 plug screw to put in place of the missing front sight $0.50

Dang. That's $82 and I still need to make a rear sight dovetail plug.

Almost any project will eventually cost us either in time or cash. The question one must always ask is it worth it. I think you have a worthwhile project there.
