92 SHORT MAGAZINE CONVERSION

My last project for a while. Base rifle is my 92 44 MAG.

Always wanted a WIN 53 growing up. Now it's here.

Only waited for a magazine tube to show up for sale. This on came w/ all parts, from ebay.

Last steps will be to finish the fill piece for the old mag tube ring "dovetail" and add a tang sight. Maybe walnut later, folks here seem to think highly of PGW for that, and we remain open to suggestions.

VERY happy with this, love the look. Holds 6 now. Works great.

(Only had time for two pics, lady of the house has me painting today)

I like the look. Let us know how you filled the dovetail.

That doesn't help me understand. I'd like to know why you wanted that. I don't hate on others' stuff but sometimes I can't figure out why on my own so I ask. No biggie.

Long time back a friends dad had a Win 53. IIRC it was in 25-20. It was old and well cared for.

He brought it (and us) on fishing trips, and if the fish weren't biting, he would keep sharp for deer season sighting on cypress knees along the banks.

If we behaved, we got a few shots in. I always admired the sleekness of the design, and that sentiment has stuck through today. I have no real need for any lever gun, or single action revolver, or SxS shotgun. But that's what we grew up around, and they make me feel better.

I refuse to alter or potentially damage an old weapon like an original 53 the way my family likes to use our guns. We also have succeeded in keeping reloading down to 5 calibers and 2 gauges.

These are the draws to the Rossi's, Rugers, and Stoegers. They give me ability to change what I like without damaging their value to someone else.

If you are searching for a practical reason, I can't supply it (other than the reloading). If I came off as curt, that wasn't the intention.

Awesome story. Thanks for sharing. I feel better. Not that it matters to a hill of beans. Sometimes I just want to know what I'm missing.

echo,

I really like how that turned out. Looks great. Now, if only the barrel were really tapered, like the picture makes it look!

I have thought about doing this for a long time. But I want to do it to a 20" round barrel model. I think you could save some weight by doing this, and that would make the gun a little easier to carry on a long walk.

I also like the idea of a half octagon, half round barrel and a short mag tube. I think that style is the best looking of all.
