DIY Rifle Rest

Post by btoran »

Not exactly Gunsmithing, but a DIY project for the gun.

I had a sandbag style rifle rest for shooting at the range and it worked great until I took my dad shooting this past weekend. Toward the end of the day, he rested the hot barrel down deep into the sandbag and it was toast. Well, close to toast anyway and un-repairable.

So I did a little youtubing, scrounged around the house and shop, and came up with this handy dandy DIY Rifle Rest for the shooting range.

It's made from a mini tripod. I took off the camera mount piece, drilled out a bolt, added some pvc pipe, put some sticky sided felt inside and viola, instant rifle rest.

The back of the rifle is unsupported, but I like it better that way. The legs are adjustable and even on the lowest setting there is enough ground clearance to work the lever.

LOL, some good use for the left over 4" PVC !

Since I have a couple of rests I don't think I'll be copying yours Bruce.

Strong rain and winds yesterday has limbs down all over the yard so
today's chores are already planned.

Jim - I hear you on the chores. We had howling winds and rain here last night. Not sure how hard it was blowing, but the last time was probably a hurricane. Limbs and fence sections scattered around the yard. Debating whether to clean it all up or wait until my boys are older and let them do it. :)

I like the latter option.

Yours mow the lawn? Mine might want to but I care about it too much. At 5' 10" 140 I can get nearly anywhere I need to.
