Forearm Removel?

Post by RickinVA »

I have a new 92 carbine and would like to refinnish the wood. Can someone provide instruction on how to remove the forearm? I know there can be some issues with the barrel band and magazine tube. Thanks.

I start by remembering the orientation of everything such as which side the screws enter the bands, etc. A picture is worth a thousand misplaced thoughts.
  • Remove the forearm tip screw. Once you loosen it, free of the threads, you will probably need a very small punch to push it clear of the stock, tube, and barrel.
  • Remove the barrel band screw.
  • Remove the magazine cap screw and cap.
  • If the magazine spring hasn't flown out, remove it and the follower.
  • Remove the magazine tube.
  • Remove the barrel and forearm tip bands. With the tube still in the forearm, the bands cannot get past the front sight.
  • Remove the forearm.
Nothing to it. The hardest part when putting it back together is getting the forearm band screw to seat in the band unless you have done something to insure the parts fit. See this topic: R92 Forearm vs. Band Fit
