R92 Scope Mount Holes Had To Be Retapped

Post by Deleted User 2964 »

The screws that came with my new mount don't match the threads in the barrel.
Any ideas what might work. Any info at all would be helpful .
Thanks

Boy, that's not good. I would take your original screws to a good hardware store, they should have a screw guide to match threads then after that you should have quite the choices for head type.

Good idea.

Worst case is he could then post the thread and pitch as well as length of his supplied screws so others here could compare.

Not to sound silly but have you tried flushing the threads maybe gummed up with cosmoline still. Just brainstorming is all.

Funny, I was coming back to suggest the same. I also was going to ask more about the thread issues. These holes are not very deep by design, are you sure they are not bottoming out. Braztech might not have drilled the holes deep enough.

Yea, I had not even though of that. Easy way to check your screw hole depth is to use a toothpick and a black felt tip marker stick the pic in the hole and mark each one as its bottomed out. This should give you a general idea of the depth. You can then compare it to your screws. Or if you have a dial caliper with a small enough depth gauge tail on it to check. Not sure the technical name to the caliper tail but I figure most that have one know what I mean lol. Keep us posted O.P. so we can learn from this to add to the wealth of knowledge were building here. +corn

Took it to a local machinist I know that also does some smithing.
Didn't really want to as his solution to things is get a bigger hammer.
He said he chased the threads with a tap locktited it down.
Good to go.
