  1. Remove the safety , Remove any burrs that might be around the hole where the safety was with a small file if needed.
  2. Take a piece of steel sheet metal, I used one about .017 thick and cut it to a piece that is precisely 5/16 wide by at least 5/8 long to cover the S & F. I used one just a little longer.
  3. Conform the metal to fit the crown on top of the bolt. To do that I took a 5/8 craftsman 1/2 drive socket which had about the same curvature, I taped the metal piece onto the socket then held it face down against a piece of soft wood. I then gave the back of the socket a good whack with a rubber hammer and drove the metal piece into the soft wood which conformed it to the curvature of that socket. It was almost the perfect match to the curve of the bolt. I filed the back edge of that piece to conform to the back edge of the bolt but I don't think that was necessary.
  4. Use LocTite metal to metal epoxy sparingly to attach it to the bolt, Follow the directions that come with the epoxy, don't clamp only slight pressure is needed if any at all ( I used a rubber band). Make sure it stays in the position you want. Clean the excess glue away with toothpicks dipped in mineral spirits after about one hour. Let it dry for about a day.
  5. I used cold blue to finish the job. Perma Blue paste worked good for me.

JimR, I like what you have done, smart....have you every addressed eliminating the safety built into the trigger?

Havn't looked into doing anything with the trigger safety yet. I'll be using the gun for deer hunting and that safety on top just had to go because I anticipated it just being in the way and causing all kinds of problems.

P.S. Are you a Navy Doc ? I retired 2 years ago from PhibCB2 with a CMC Rating.

Yup, never made chief, didn't stay long enough, though I think it was my best and most rewarding job I ever had. Left as a HM3, my whole time was with the Marines, as a grunt Corpsman. Thank you for your time in Chief, you guys ran the Navy as they say.

You did your part and the country does appreciates it. I did 22 years with the Navy Reserve as a Construction Mechanic with the SeaBees, I regretfully had to retire the day I turned 60.

I was telling Akuser47 some of this and mentioned I was never stationed with the regular Navy, but I did some time with the SeaBees in active reserves out of Lakehurst, been so long ago I don't even remember the battalion, hankering to get back to the Marines, I transferred over to a Marine Air squadron. That was a cake walk compared to my full time active duty days. Sorry for the off topic you'all.
