Pictures: magazine ring accurizing modification

Post by Xshot »

The screw that captures the magazine plug no longer protrudes through the mag tube and into the barrel. On my rifle this screw would shift and begin to climb out of the relief/dimple on the bottom of the barrel. This created a pressure point - vertical stringing - and hurt accuracy.

I drilled and tapped through both the mag ring and mag tube. Next I installed a SS set screw. The mag plug screw was filed down to prevent contact with the barrel, but still secure the plug in the mag tube.

The set screw doesn't need to ever be removed.

Awesome fix! Moving this to "DIY Gunsmithing".

Sorry to resurrect an old thread...

Just wondering, what size set screw did you use? Did you have any problem tapping the mag tube? Mine is in .45 Colt, and seems kind of thin for tapping. Seems like a great fix though.
