DIY 45 Colt Shell Casing Magazine Follower

Post by zissman »

Has anyone made their own mag follower for a 45 Colt Rossi?

I made the the one for a 357 out of 40 S&W and 44 Sp brass but I'm curious if anyone's made one for a 45 Colt.

I've got another M92 coming in 45 Colt and have got all my mods ready to go and want to check on this.

Thanks

I turned mine out of brass as I got frustrated trying to figure the right cartridge combination for the Colt. I did make one for the 357 from the 40 and 44 combination and so far it's working great.

I gave up. A 45acp case will fit THe spring tightly, but a larger collar for the bottom was a little harder to come by. I couldn't find a piece of brass to fit or bras/copper pipe.

So I broke down and bought one.

One last update. Found a Taylor's & Co stainless follower on eBay. The thicker lower band wasn't as thick as the Rossi, but the part that counts was identical. Popped it in and everything seems to be working.

One more last update, with the Taylor's company follower my Puma 92 in 45 Colt will hold 11 rounds in the tube. I guess the shorter overall length allows another shell in.

Hello Zissman,

I have a Rossi in 45 colt, and used a 45 colt case slipped inside of a 348 win. brass to make a mag follower . The Dimensions are as follows.
45 colt length is .540
348 win length is .410, total length is .950
I also polished the inside of the mag tube to facilitate cartridge movement in the tube.
Hope this is of some help.

P.S. somewhere in the mag follower thread I posted on this last yr. sometime.
Good luck , Al1460

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I missed you build when I was looking. I bought a stainless follower off ebay, but I'll keep an eye out for 348 brass to make my own. I like making my own stuff as much as possible.

Thanks
