Welcome, there are several UK shooters here. If you have the octagon barrel it wont be factory drilled and tapped for a mount. Not sure about the round barrel models I believe some were some weren't. The actual Rossi mounts are pretty much made from unobtainium these days but NOE makes a mount that garners a lot of praise (see a link at the bottom of any page).

My 45 Colt is a 20" octagon and wears a Marbles tang sight an addition i hope to make to my 20" 357 soon. It puts the rear aperture just close enough to the eye to work with my eye out to 100 yards on the range and may 50 or 60 in the woods.

Next to my 40-65 Sharps my Rossi 45 is my next favorite then the 357 then all the rest. Those three are the only legal deer rifles here in Ohio so I spend a lot of time at the range and in the woods with them.

Welcome to the forum!

Concerning the scope mount, the Rossi base (#892) has become just about impossible to find here in the US. NOE makes their version on the 892 mount, using a Picatinny rail.

Howdy from South Carolina, and welcome to the forum.

The recent production octagon barrel model 92 that I got came with the tang pre-drilled and tapped (D&T) for adding a sight. There are some nice tang sight options available. I don't think round barreled versions come pre-drilled.

Thank you for the welcome , I must admit I do like my Rossi , ifs comfy to shoot and does better than I can do most of the time . Standard pilot error issues I think :-).
It’s a stainless short barrel , not octagonal with no tappings in the barrel top , only the dovetail rwar sight and tappings in the side of the reciever . I tried a short mount that picked up on the Side drilling’s only but never held under recoil . I’ve seen these

http://www.mod94scoperail.com

That pick up on the dovetail and side tappings for a scout scope mount in front of the reciever and this seems to answer most of the problems that the Rossi has with mounting scopes . Are these any good at all ?

Thanks for looking. Cheers

Have you pulled off the rear sight to look for the mount holes? On these pages we have owners swear that their rifle is not D&T until they lift the rear sight of the barrel.

Not sure what "tappings in the side of the receiver" you are referring to. Is your receiver drilled and tapped for a receiver sight like an M94 Winchester?

Merry Christmas and welcome. I just got a Skinner barrel mount peep sight. Age is a pain. Waiting on some brass so I can drift out the old and press in the new. Welcome again.

Welcome aboard!

That Tac-Rail thing looks like just what you need. I have the NOE rail and highly recommend it, but my 92 was D&Td. A NOE would be a good solution if you have access to a good smithy.

I see that Tac-Rail gives you the fifth free if you buy four. You might choose to buy four more untapped Rossi's . . .
