Back to my roots.

Post by Stormchsr »

Born and raised a country boy, I have been held hostage by big cities all my adult life. But I retired last year and just bought a house in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. Moving from Miami Beach to a house part way up a mountain with no neighbors in sight or sound will be a big and happy change.

Just bought a Rossi M92, 454 from gunbroker. I had read a lot about them. Many things about fit and finish etc, I was expecting a utilitarian rifle. What I got was a beautiful little carbine. High luster, deep blue. Some sort of mottled finish on the wood that looks awesome. Great fit of parts. Maybe I got lucky but I am a happy camper.

Howdy from down yonder in the upstate of SC. I'm a city girl (Brooklyn) that realized the country life is preferable for me. Been here more than a decade since we retired. When my NY cousin visited before retirement, he was hooked on the area too, and moved to Hendersonville.

Enjoy that new 454. :D

Ya gonna git a matching wheel gun to go with it? ;)

I will be just over the Ga. border and close to Tennessee as well. Nice little town called Murphy close by and I am still in the hills and woods. What's not to love.

I like heavy bullets at moderate velocity, and since many lever actions are finicky about OAL, I thought the 454 would be great for long heavy .45 colt (325-360 grain). Easier on the gun and my old shoulder than full house 454s. So my thoughts are a Ruger Blackhawk in 45lc (combo probably) for a companion revolver.

And don't forget the new Harrah's casino in Murphy for some adult entertainment. Hubby and I go to the Harrah's in Cherokee every few months. They have some good shows and if you golf, the Sequoyah National in Cherokee is a hoot to play.

I tried my son-in-laws S&W 460 recently, with a few different loads, and the lite loads were more fun than the 45ACP from a 1911 or 45LC from a SAA that I tried in the past.

Thanks for the tips. It may take a lot to pry me from my new place for a while though.

Thanks. I just picked it up last week. Probably won't get a chance to shoot it till after my move is complete. Really impressed with fit and finish and looks awesome. I have seen many pictures online and I think I got really lucky buying off gunbroker. Great looking metal and wood. Looks like a better grade than most but maybe all that are upgrades of a previous owner. No complaints though. I think the recoil pad will help though I don't need grizzly loads in North Carolina.

Welcome to the board.

I grew up in NW GA about 30 minutes south of Chattanooga and maybe 70 minutes north of the North Avenue Trade School in downtown Atlanta.

I feel a little like I'm stuck among Yankees. I seem to recall CA went for the North by 1 vote.
Of course the GA land grant initially read 'sea to sea' so I just tell myself I'm still in GA, sort of.

Thank you. I am searching the site for answers before I ask questions. But I am super happy with my 92. As for my move. Can't wait. This packing and sorting is a pain. But closing is in two weeks. New place has a loft that I will dedicate to guns and sharp objects. Maybe a work bench so I can get into reloading. New place. New life.
