Howdy from Texas

Post by Hotled »

Hi from north Texas.
Just bought a Rossi 92 .357 carbine. I like the shorter barrel and may use it to punch a few small hogs and tin cans.
I will start slicking it up this weekend, my plans are to file the loading gate so it's not like a razor blade anymore, swap out the ejector spring (going to try a 7/32 x 1 1/2 spring from harbor freight.
Also a good cleaning and grease, will clean any burrs I find, gotta shorten that mag spring ,omg.

One thing I noticed when putting rounds in the gate, flat nose may hang up and get jammed and damage the soft point, wondering if that needs smoothed out or if the shorter spring will help that.

Welcome, lots of Texans here. Also for your gun if new always best to start by removing buttock and flushing with non chlorinated break cleaner. Also flush your barrel and the mag tube if you remove spring and follower. keep flushing until all of it runs out clear and clean then reoil it all and shot it a lot. Also watch some cowboy movies and cycle it 500 times or more it will help start breaking her in. All this info is in our 92 threads. Again welcome.

Welcome to the forum from South Texas!

Pondering the bullet nose damage you mentioned. Something isn't getting out of the way. Pull the butt stock off and flush it out with the cleaner AK mentioned, then blow it out with compressed air, oil it, blow the oil into it, and work it. Repeat this cycle until the flush is just clean oil.

North Texas, eh? I'm 10 miles from the Red River.

Welcome and holler some time.

Howdy from South Carolina, and welcome to the forum.

When new, my 92 used to not consistently load smoothly through the gate, and sometimes put nicks in the soft lead if it hung up. Relieving the too strong gate spring per Steve's Gunz DVD made it load smooth and stop the gouges in the soft lead.
