Hello!
I am very pleased to find this forum to support my yearning to learn as much as possible about new new rifle! I received my first lever action rifle for Christmas! A Rossi R92, stainless, 38 Special/357 Mag. with a 20 in. barrel. My wife surprised the heck out of me, very similar to Ralphie in the Christmas Story! The Rossi flawlessly cycled my 38 spl reloads using a 158 lead RNFP. I adjusted the windage and elevation and am very impressed with its tight groupings.

I grew up in Montana and have lived in northern Wyoming along the base of the Big Horn Mountains for the past 35 years. Growing up, all of my long guns have been bolt action, but I always had a desire to own a pistol caliber lever to go along with my handguns and reloading setup.

I am a retired teacher and football coach of 30 years. I currently work for the First People's Center For Education as a mathematics program specialist. Simply put, I travel to reservation schools and work with teachers, students, and administration on the teaching of mathematics. My travels take me to Montana, Wyoming, Washington, and Alaska. It has been an extremely rewarding second career! This is our web site in case you're interested: www.fpcfe.org

My next bit of research will be to see what's out there in the way of motorcycle scabbards! I'm a life long Harley rider and it's my preferred mode of transportation 8 months out of the year. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Bob

Greetings from the hills of NE CT!

I am a disabled Viet Nam vet, a father & grandfather, a retiree, writer, poet, photographer, composer, and a man who appreciates the wonders and beauties that God has created for us to enjoy. I try to stay in touch with family and friends, but also enjoy solo time. I even shoot once in a while.

I've almost always had, at least, a 22LR bolt action hanging around the house or apartment, but by the end of 2013, I found myself looking into lever actions, finally deciding on Rossi, mainly for cost control, and despite a lot of internet laments about internal retrofitting and deburring. I figured that I've lived on the edge, here and there, in life, and could afford to work through any break in period or retrofitting needed to arrive at the glowing reports that I was reading from other Rossi enthusiasts, like yourselves.

I bought a 357 M92 16"bbl carbine from a local gunshop, and liked the feel of it so much (despite the hard spring and sharp edges of the loading gate) that I turned around within days and ordered a 357 24"octagon bbl online, for the same price as the carbine. I've already bought a couple of fix-its for these solid and smooth guns: Steve'sgunz stainless magazine followers to replace the yellow plastic originals, and Marble ghost rings rear sights to replace the buckhorns (hopefully this latter will be a BIG help for my aging eyes). I put the ss follower in the carbine last night, but had to order a brass punch set before starting on the rear sight replacement. All in God's good time...

I would like to get the load gate edges and spring tension fixed, asap, but want to have a lever-friendly local gunsmith walk me through the disassembly and reassembly process first, as that's the way I learn best. I'm itching to receive the rifle version and try them both. Maybe I'll run some rounds through the guns before tearing them down the first time. We shall see how long my patience holds out. Now to find a good range around here........

I respond best to direct communication, via email. God bless you all!
