My first thought after being asked the question was "Time for a new pediatrician". I started checking around, and found it was not that uncommon nowadays.
It's not just around here either, because when I've told that story online, people in other states (and not just the usual suspects like CA, NY, etc) have said they got the same or similar questions. Apparently it started around ten years ago (probably in one of the usual suspect states, then spread).
Weasels all.

And btw, she never asked the question again. I was surprised by it the first time, but after preparing all kinds of snarky responses, I was not asked again.
Either they took the question off, or they got what they wanted the first time they asked.
