Embarassing and frustrating

Post by Ohio3Wheels »

I need some micro drills for another non gun project and I bought a set from Harbor Freight (yah I know). The problem is I cant figure how to open the nice little indexes they come in.

Anybody with a set and the clue how to get them open?

In the last couple of years of "stuff", I've dropped quite a few notches in patience .... so .... I'd resort to the 3 lb. hammer.

Yep, I know, that ain't proper. ;)

I don't have any experience with them, but assuming it's a plastic type clamshell holder, look for a seam and a hinge/pivot should be at opposite end of that seam.

Now take the holder out to your driveway and position it at a 45 degree angle between the pavement and rear wheel of your truck. Wedge it in place and get in truck, start engine and engage transmission in reverse.

Back up.

You're welcome.

A lot of creative solutions and thank you all.

Problem solved:
Went to HF's web site and they show a picture of one open. Works like a change purse. Parting lines are hard to see in the clear plastic.

One immediate b******** not marked as to size.

The net can be your friend :)

that's why we have calipers.
I don't trust markings on drill bits.

Yeah but HF calipers on HF drill bits probably aren't going to be any better than the markings on them.
Especially when you consider the potential runout on them, and or the runout on the HF drill, HF dremel or HF drill press...

That said, HF isn't all bad. I've got a HF 20 pc set of brad point wood bits that I've had for 20 years. Still zips through wood quite well even if they aren't as the higher end precision ones I picked up about the same time for when it needed to be closer tolerances.
