Get your flu shot!

Post by desertrider »

I never used to bother with flu shots until 2008 when I got a bad case of pneumonia. Since then I've gotten pneumonia vaccine every five years and flu shot every year, except this year. :(

Thursday night the symptoms started, and by Friday morning it felt like I was run over by a bus. Just had my first meal since Thanksgiving dinner just now, a bowl of chicken soup.

Headache, dizziness, joint aches, muscle soreness and fever. Fortunately, absolutely no digestive issues.

I'm pretty sure ground zero for me was the checkout line at WINCO (grocery store). The cashier had that "I'm miserable" dead look in her eyes. I should have just faked leaving my wallet in the car and left everything on the conveyor and gone to Aldi's instead.

Sorry to hear it. Why people go to work with the flu is beyond me.

the company I worked for in 1979 "required" the flu shot. It was "live virus" at the time. Against my will, I took it - two days later got the flu and missed 5 days work. Went on my own in 1983, and have been infested with it a couple times and missed 2-3 days work each time, but swore off the shots. Yep, I know it's not the same as 40 years ago, but the shot is still based on "their" best guess as to what strain to prepare the vaccine for. Guess I'm just playing the odds.

Never had one. Not sure I've had the flu. All have differing risks and opinions.

I get it and have gotten it (the flu) in a long time. Hope I didn't curse myself!

As long as you getting vaccines, might as well include Shingles.

Do you guys think it's too late to get a flu shot now for this season? I've been meaning to get it but stuff kept getting in the way.

Not too late although indications are that the vaccine was rather ineffective this year.
I got hit with something after x-mas and was down for 3 days.
At least another couple folks at work have been hit with something similar and at least one or two others who were at the x-mas get together.
I did not have the shot this year. I haven't had the flu for several years. I usually get a sinus infection for a day or two and that's pretty much it. I have had the shot two or three times over the past ten years.
