Dont use Photo Bucket!

Post by akuser47 »

They changed their free account to no 3rd party hosting so now all my previous images are dead linked. They are essentially ransoming people like me that have used Photo bucket for I think over 10 years maybe longer.
Unless you have a paid account they will no longer share your photo free. Sorry RD all my previous posts will have dead pictures now. I'm furious. I don't have the time to go through and redo all the posts from years and years of posts on all forums I frequent. I am furious! I guess I should know free isn't always going to stay that way.
Also to be clear I never have deleted an uploaded photo so to insure I didn't ruin a post I might have used one in.

Yes PB is ransoming the photos, and to re-activate the web links requires their highest cost account at 399 bucks a year. I've already downloaded all my pics from PB and uploaded them to a hosting site called Imgbb that works well. But of course that's not going to repair all the masked graphics.

I'm hoping someone from PB has a change of heart about the retroactive nature of the change in the user agreement.

Never been a huge fan of linking to 'free' storage but uploading pics direct can be a pain after a while also.

Disappointing, yes, but dead photo links on old discussion board postings is common as dirt. I blame Al Gore.

Just continuing the trend of not really owning anything in the age if digital media. Im 31 and a few years ago had a friend ask an incredulous "why??" when i told him i wanted to buy a music album on CD instead of digital download.

My response: so i can actually own it

Thankfully you still own your pics, but i wouldnt be surprised at all to see some online photo server start charging to recover stored photos or worse go out of business, close their servers and whoops all the things you thought you owned went from the Cloud to Vaporware

Im ranting now i know but im glad to have computer games and music on disc, pictures printed out from the drug store, and books in ink on paper. Thank you very much

We still have photos printed and written to CD. I've never paid for a music download although I have a full 16 Gb iPod....I buy real then convert myself.

I have way too many linked pics on Photobucket to move them.

THIS TOPIC has older Photobucket pics...topic is 1.5+ years old.

When will they disappear?
