New Ears

Post by Ohio3Wheels »

This past Tuesday I got a call from my audiologist that my new "ears" were in so as soon as I could get there I got them fitted and programmed.

A few observations have occurred in the few days I've been wearing them.

First I should have done this a few years ago instead of trying to compensate.

Dog toenails on the hardwood floors are noisy.

I've been in factories that a quieter than coffee shops. These kids that work here are going to be in the same boat in a few years.

The door on the dog kennel in the car rattles.

Wife probably wasn't mumbling all this time.

It's going to be an interesting trip. :D

Gas, I just got tired of not hearing what I thought I ought to. One of the convincing happening was when the range officers at the state range had to start tapping me on the shoulder to let me know that there was a call for a ceasefire. With muffs on I simply couldn't hear the commands unless one of them was right next to me.

Music on the radio sounds better and I hear more bird song when I'm out.

First range trip will be Wednesday, more later.

I sure wish my dad would follow your advice. I have been blessed with him living on the ranch near eleven years but he doesn't realize what he is missing out on with his hearing issues. My friends and I laugh about a lot of the conversations that happen out here but the truth of the matter is that I've stopped asking for his help in a lot of things I do out here because he has become downright dangerous with his lack of hearing.

I'm glad you stepped up and took care of it. I kind of figure that with longer lives that we seem to live we will all end up with the need.

RD, it's hard to get folks to come over. My wife sits and points the finger at me,,,when she is real deaf.
My ears a kinda bad, but I am selective about what I pay attention to.
I wish the best for you and your Dad. Mine left back in the early 80's.
Don't ask me to do anything where where I can't take Bible and Gun, I would leave Dog home, but reluctantly.

I can relate Ohio, got my ears last year after putting it off for a really long time.
Hear more " stuff " that I really don't need to hear.

BUT ... I don't wear them at the range my muffs are the noise cancelling kind but
can hear normal conversations. The electronic kind.

ha ha, my wife has been accusing me of selective hearing for years ... Jim ;)

There were probably a lot of factors, but I think the final push was a letter from the NRA that pointed out some of their benefits one of which is a hearing program.

I investigated and for me it fit in the budget and the aids are American made. I guess since sometime around my 60th birthday I get occasional offer to get better hearing from and assortment of places. Prices were high and I always felt that they were more interested in selling me the devices. Not sure why this seemed different but here I am and hearing better.
