New Knives
Well yesterday I finished two. The first was a replacement for my personal hunting knife that I gave away to a friend last season. He had lost his. The steel is D2 with a canvas micarta handle and stainless steel "bolt" style fasteners. This is my own personal design and I really like how it works for field dressing and skinning.
The second knife was a custom request from an old friend of mine. He is a really big man and has a hard time finding knives that fit his hands. He asked for an "Old Timer Sharp Finger", but with a really oversized handle and blue wood. This is what I came up with. The wood is Fiddleback Myrtle Wood from the Oregon coast. I added a bit of blue stain to it to bring out the grain and to meet his request. All I can say is "wow", that is awesome wood. It is actually holographic. The grain pattern changes depending on how you hold it in the light. I can't help but think that this would make a great gun stock. It is hard but not too heavy. This knife was made fro the same piece of D2 tool steel and has the same type of stainless steel fasteners.

Re: New Knives
Good morning
Nice work ! There is nothing like a knife that fits the hand right.
My hands are on the small side. Many fixed blades are too big but I cam remove handle material.

Re: New Knives
Thanks all. They were fun to make. Now I am trying a few things out on some kitchen knives. I have a few theories that I would like to try. If it all works out I will post them here along with the resulting knife/knives. So far I have a 7 inch chef's knife blade ground and heat treated. I went ahead and sharpened it to run it through a few test to see if it was worth finishing. It performed well, so I'll go ahead and put a handle on it.
