Thanks, Don. That's awesome. No wonder you need a a spotter. I've flown RC airplanes but there is no way I could keep up with that.

Probably just the doppler that your hearing.

I had to run way down the lake bank when my son was trying a straight away pass with one of our friends, gas boat. We thought that it was still revving until it got into the first timing light, because of the limited run up distance that we had. I told them it was more than likely reved as high as it would go before it got there, and the doppler effect was messing with us. Of course I got a dumb founded look back from both of them.
So I ran down the bank to maybe 300 feet before the light, and I could hear that it was maxed out at about 100-150 before the light. It was really odd to hear one rpm as the boat passed by me, and then hear it revving much higher over the cell phone as I was talking to the boat owner/spotter 500 feet away and in front of the boat.
We are going to have to get one of the on board telemetry devices, that will show RPM on the fly. That would really help with my electric boats as they will also read amps, volts, temps, speed, and can calculate watts. (this electric stuff is getting over my head, but I am enjoying learning about it).

klr,
Yes, If the driver has time to look ahead.....he's not going fast enough!

Have you ever seen Formula 1 model airplanes racing? OMG talk about fast! I think they are going around 220 mph on the straights, and then they make a 15-20 G turn! They race in a big triangle course around pylons, and have to stand in the middle of the course.

In this video, you can hear the engine come ON the pipe when it makes the big rpm jump as he adjust the needle/mixture. Then when they finally get it in the air, you can hear how much the doppler affects the sound. This is an FAI class plane, (Federation Aeronautic Internationale) which allows a tuned pipe, but does not allow nitromethane in the fuel but instead burns 75/25 methyl alcohol and castor oil.

This one also shows how the motor comes on the pipe. This is controline speed using an FAI class .15 cu. in. engine and FAI fuel. When the motor comes on, it will be turning between 35-40,000 rpm.

Thanks,

I like to think of it in the scale speed. It's about a 1/8th scale boat so 46 mph times 8 equals 368 scale mph, Dang, I was flying!!!!

People do that.

Seems like my 10/22 shoots 35280 FPS as compared to my R92. Am I right?

Well, the "trials" are over finally! And according to my buddy in Atlanta who is the "Records Director" and is actually the one who has to take all the info from the event, sort through it to make sure everything is legal and all the paper work is fill out correctly. He sez that my record did not get broken by the fellow from Orlando, nor anyone else, and he should have it posted pretty soon +guns

I'm already working on ideas of how to lower it some more, next time we get a chance to try. Also doing some planing on how to attack a couple of other classes that I think we have a chance at taking. But It's going to require a new hull for those classes and that takes a lot of time and work to get a plug and mold made up, and then you have to hope that your ideas are correct and you didn't go through all that time, work, and money, only to make a PIG of a boat, that won't go fast enough.

The guy that was in charge of this event, went through all this trouble, mostly because he though that HE had a chance at taking a record himself. He lives in Texas and drove his motor home all the way to Georgia, and camped all week at the pond. Mostly so that he would have enough time at the water to get in some good times with his boat. He is running in a class that we do not even race anymore and is a holdover from years past, and is using a very small engine that fits into this class.
It is a .12 cu.in. engine. That's 1.96 cc. In other words TINY! So you can imagine how small his boat had to be and thus required very smooth water. He could run this boat only first thing in the morning, and then late in the afternoon, when the wind was dead calm, and there were no ripples at all on the water. Also he's going for a straight away pass so it will be going much faster than if doing an oval.

He eventually did get his record @103 MPH, the old one was 95. And he had a one way pass at 105mph.(we have to go both ways and be within 2% to make it legal).

Outstanding Don! That's some crazy speed with the little boat! I wish the video had included a close up of it.

I tried to find a couple of pic but did not locate any. I'll see if some of my buddies have any. You'll probably be disappointed in them though as these "out rigger hydros" don't really look like a boat.

BTW rd. Glenn is one of us in that he too is a pilot. Use to be a test pilot for the air force!

Congratulations!

Also love the Rain-X treatment of the hull bottom.
