Greatest Cowboy Movie Ever Made

Post by wll »

Well I think they used '92's but just watched Tombstone for the 100th time .... why Val Kilmer did not win an academy award for his performance is just beyond me, he was off the charts !

What an awesome film !

Halfway through it I pulled out my '92 and shot holes in my walls ;- ) I also re-chambered it in 44-40 while watching Val Kilmer twirl his wine cup making fun of Johnny Ringo ;- )

All I can say is what a film !

(monitor, I did not know where to put this, so if you wish to move the post please do so)

When I saw the title to this thread, I guessed that the OP was going to name "Open Range" as his favorite. But when I saw it was "Tombstone", I wasn't disappointed. These two are currently my favorite westerns. Can and will watch them anytime either is being broadcast. But there are some older ones that I watched repeatedly in the day and still watch whenever possible. The first is "The Long Riders". Actor brothers portraying outlaw brothers was pretty much over the top and made a pretty decent telling of the James/Younger story. And I cannot leave out "The Magnificent Seven". First saw it at age 15 with my girlfriend at a Saturday matinee. We both liked it so much that we forgot to "make out".

Open Range is a favorite here too. But my all time favorite western is Outlaw Josey Wales.

I don't have to rechamber my 1892 to 44-40. I've already got a Marlin in that caliber.

My favorites of all time are the Lonesome Dove series.
Dead Man's Walk
Comanche Moon
Lonesome Dove
Return to Lonesome Dove (different author but followed story line perfectly)
Streets of Laredo

Then 2 years of TV show based on one character Newt.
Lonesome Dove: The Series
Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years

Now the reason is due to the fact that from beginning to end the cloths, speaking style, guns etc fit properly in the period of time it was supposed to happen in. Two others that also follow that are The Outlaw Josie Wales and Open Range.

Now some that don't but still among my favorites are every horse opera done by Clint Eastwood regardless. I also enjoyed many of the John Wayne westerns also even though they are all basically the same movie.

My favorite TV series western was Gun Smoke period and listened to it on the Radio when I was a small boy before it was made into a TV series.
