FireField NVRS 3x42

Post by Ranch Dog »

I decided to take the plunge but went with the night vision Gen 1. It seems the lower end digital just doesn't have the range that I work with and with the additional cost of illuminators and then the size of the package, I'm better off with G1 stuff. I have several friends that are really into this (G1 through G3 and into high end digital), they suggested that based on how I hunt, the range that I'm hunting, size considerations, and entry-level price that I just go G1.

The FireField NVRS 3x42 was recommended based on their use of the product. The scope is available in 1.5, 3, and 4 power, so I chose the 3 power as that is what I normally hunt with. The scope was $339 out the door. No tax or shipping charges.

I guess I will soon find out, will be here in a week. Will mount it on my Mini-30 or Marlin 1894CL chambered in 32-20 Win.

Very nice.

I just listed and SPF'd some .32WCF brass.

I need money to pay my health insurance and won't ever need 200 .32-20 cases.

Life sucks.

Sometimes it does, especially when its time to pay for insurance.

It arrived today and is on the rifle. My reloading room can seal up tight and dark, it worked well in there. Could have shot any rats scurrying around!

The eye relief seems correct, I might need to move it back one more notch on the scout rail. This rifle and the 7.62x39 is going to be my springtime project. Will move all the reloading for the Mini-30 to a dedicated Load-Master.

Tonight, I will test the optics but probably not shoot. By dark, it will be below freezing and we will probably see 22º. This morning at sunrise it was 20º, that's damn cold for this end of Texas. Heck, I know people that don't have heaters in their houses, just sleep under an electric blanket.

I just had it out and was able to put the crosshairs on a buck out in a food plot about 160-yards out!

Yeah, it is and is at the limit of its spec.

The back side of the food plot is 200-yards out and I could see it as plain as day, literally. It was below freezing and very low humidity, not a typical South Texas evening so I don't know how these factors limit or enhance range.
