Sighting In The Vortex Scout Scope

Post by Jaybm »

Finally ...

I won't BS ya'll, after some initial struggling I called on the RO to assist my efforts.
I was trying to short cut the procedure using a one shot method ... didn't work.
The RO said shoot a three shot group and adjust the cross hairs to there.

The three shot group in the box and the result of a second three shot group
after aligning the cross hairs.

Okay, moved a fresh target to 50 yards and shot another group without any adjustments.

I can live with that !

And finally moved another target out to 75 yards,

Got a surprise, expected POI to be high and it was low. Should have tweaked the scope a
tad but just applied a little KY windage and let it go at that.

Conclusion : Really like the Vortex Scout Scope for my ole eyes. Was set at 7X max, clear as
a bell and sharp. Was shooting my favorite 158g RFP Xtremes over 5.1g Tite Group. Pretty
sure I could move out to 100 yards with no problem but not sure when I'll get another chance
to go.

Very glad to hear that the Vortex works so well. Looks like the ocular bell just squeaks in ahead of the ejection port.

I'm a little confused. You expected the POI to rise between 50 and 75 yards?

Don't ask, don't make sense now that I think about it but at the time ??? Senior Moment !

Next trip I'll do some fine tuning at 75 yards and further.

Nope, I've been there. I have never been so twisted in a knot over left and right and up and down as I have been behind a rifle scope.

Very fine looking rig you have there. Thanks for sharing!

what scope mount/ rings did you use? I have the Vortex Scout Scope on the rossi brand mount with burris signiture medium rings and I cant bring the point of impact up to the bullseye. I'm out of scope adjustment range, shooting 5 inches low at 25 yards even after using the +20 elevation adjustment sleeve for the burris rings. :(

I finally gave up and droped my rifle off with my gunsmith to see what kind of magic he can work on it.

Are you useing a rossi scope mount or a solid gtg noe machine scope base. The Rossi brand are known to be whacky. Now at bottom of this page is what you need.

+1 to what akuser47 said.
NOE rail is rock solid, finely built, satisfying to look at, money well spent.
