Friday the 13th !

Post by Jaybm »

I couldn't hit the side of a barn !!!

Didn't change a thing from last week but five rounds down range
and I couldn't see a hole in the twelve inch target. Finally slid a
.38sp in the chamber and there's a hole just barely in the outer
ring at twelve o'clock. Decided not to waste more ammo and time.

Had to be the Friday the 13th jinx !!! Ya'll know I shoot the 158gr
Xtreme RFN over 4.3gr of TiteGroup at 75 yards with some consistency
but not today.

The RO said you must have bumped the Red Dot ... I can fix that. I'm
sure he could but I declined ... not today anyway. Thing was rock
solid but then maybe ??? Will start over next week. At least I got
some hands on with the .357 Dan Wesson so the day wasn't a total
loss.

I hate days like this, but maybe you'll discover a reason causing it and be able to solve it before it truly matters.

Follow-up, may help someone else ?

Back to the range this week thinking I couldn't possibly do worse.

Guess what ! I couldn't even put a decent group together. Twelve
rounds at 50 yards and they were all over the place. Something is
definitely wrong ! Talk about frustrating ! Before you ask ... I was
using the rest.

Okay. back home and after cleaning I did a much closer inspection
of the Red Dot.
1. The set screw for tightening the clamp to the mount was not as
tight as was originally done. Took ~ 1 1/2 turns to fully seat. I can
only guess the .357 recoil was enough to back it out after how many
rounds, who knows ?

2. The elevation screw was bottomed out ??? Not a clue how this
happened but again I rotated it CCW several turns to start over
next week.

Re-read the manual and it stated that the mounting screws should
be checked routinely. Hmmm, I hesitate to use Locktite but that
may be a solution. Thoughts ???

So ... if suddenly your accuracy is out the window you might want
to check the mounting screws. I'll take the Red Dot off sometime
today and look at the four base screws before the zeroing process.

I got a new CZ PCR 2 weeks a go, and after 750 rounds the Loaded Chamber Indicator backed itself out and got lost at the range. :x

When the new one arrives, the threads get treated.

Hmmm. where have I heard that before ? ( LOL )

Zippy, stuff happens ! I've already re-tightened all the screws so I'll keep a
closer watch on them. If they start backing out again they'll see some
Locktite.

Blue Loctite wont hurt it, and it should stop the problem. Don't use red unless you never need to remove it though.

That ain't right. CZ is generally REAL responsive.

I've generally said most of the loaded chamber indicators are just more parts to cause problems. Whether those problems are the parts getting lost or the parts causing problems with the gun OR increased cost in terms of parts cost & additional machining and manufacturing steps OR delays in production because those extra parts aren't available for some reason thus the gun can't be finished and shipped.
My CZ-75 B and Kadet kit neither have a loaded chamber indicator. The 97 has one but as far as I can see it is an extra 3 or more parts that really aren't at all needed.

Continuing off topic. My 22/45 has the LCI still when most of the rest is aftermarket. It's never caused a problem. I don't know it's there.

Those CZ parts arrived this afternoon, and as annoying as it was to lose the parts so quickly after purchase, the CZ customer service was top notch getting me the parts in three days.
I Googled the problem of losing the CZ indicator, and the instances that I saw of that happening, were on the 97. Same design as my PCR, far as I can tell, so might want to keep an eye on it.

I agree that the indicators are not particularly useful, so far.
