Going Today !
Today's purpose is to tweak the sights and hopefully improve the
POA / POI relationship.
Shoots hi and right, I can adjust my POA to compensate but I
would really like to aim at the X ring and at least come close.
Raised the peep one full turn and bumped the front sight just
a tad ( .0003" ) to the right. Will see what this does at 50 yards.
Using same bullets and load as earlier to keep variables to a min.
Will report back with results and hopefully photo of target will
holes in the X ring. Any body got a wooden "round" pencil ?
R/O told the story of a shooter showing off his target, closer
inspection showed the bullet holes to be hex shaped instead
of round. I'm not that desperate ( yet ).

Re: Going Today !
LOL ... first let me confess to a senior moment, I said it shoots hi when in truth it shoots low
Well it was indeed a beautiful day at the range. Cool spell ,very comfortable, overcast and no wind.
I had the 100 yard range to myself for a little while when I felt a tap on my shoulder. Young man
with what appeared to be an antique ( old ) .22 bolt action single shot, a 9mm HiPoint carbine and
a new short barreled 12 ga that I didn't ask the brand. So I laid the Rossi down and lowered the
" cold range " sign so he could set up. Gave me a chance to examine what I was doing.
I got the elevation somewhat better with a turn and a half up of the aperture but still impacting left.
So we better label this as a work in progress. The small red pasty at 11 o'clock was where I used to aim, the one at 12 o'clock on the nine ring was
where I planned to aim ( pumpkin on a post ). So back to the drawing board ! Any tips from you target
shooters ? I'm shooting 50 yards from a bench with carbine propped on my elbows.

Re: Going Today !
So as not to waste the good stuff I only loaded ten rounds to test the 125gr Rainier rfn
over 4.7g of Tite Group. Much better in my humble opinion. Now if I can remember just
how I was holding my mouth on that third shot !!! Admittedly I diddled with the aperture causing that low flyer
If this mild weather holds up I'll be out there again next week with more 125 gr's.
LOL ... that pasty wasn't the splattering type and I really strained these ole eyes
to find that third hole. Was surprised !

Re: Going Today !
That Tite Group load looks like it is working pretty good for you! If you have any sandbags, try using them to steady things up a bit. I'd say that's a pretty darn good group shooting off the bench and using no rest.
At my age, there IS nothing better than shooting.

Re: Going Today !
You must have been reading my mind rman.
The range has some rests but they have been abused so many times that I hesitate
to use theirs. Pretty busted up.
Shooter down a couple of lanes had a light weigh rest similar to my Caldwell. He had
a piece of shag rug on the bench and a weight on the rest. Said the rug really helped
keep the rest from moving around. He was shooting a 308 !
Thought I'd try my Caldwell with some weight, last time I picked up one of the Range's
sand bags it leaked all over. I'll take along a gallon size zip lock bag !
The better half just stuck her head in the door and said " let's go get some bar-b- que ".
I'm outta here ... Jim

Re: Going Today !
I bought myself a pound of Tite Group today too, just to see how it works for me. I've been using Berry's hard cast 125 gr bullets with 5.3 gr of W231 and that load shoots really well in my 92. Unfortunately, I'm almost out of 231 and only have a little HP38 left. I think I'll load some of these bullets with 4.6, 4.8 and 5.0 grains of Tite Group and see how they shoot. I use the 92 for PCCLA and don't need a lot of power, just good accuracy. If it goes well, I might have to buy some more. It's going fast - the other day he had 2 cases - today he had 7 lbs. We just took 3 of that out of the equation.
At my age, there IS nothing better than shooting.

Re: Going Today !
I think you'll like it rman. I only have copper plated Rainiers in 125g and try to stay with 4.7 / 4.8 gr which
is roughly mid-range of the recommended loads.
I better check my inventory, may need to order more. Have plenty of 158g in both plated and hard cast.
Happy to be a part of the TiteGroup reduction program ...
