woden, thanks for your comments. In the background of the picture with the feed bags you can see a wall of telephone poles. Behind that are stacks of tires in a triangle pattern--2 stacks up front and the 3rd in the back in the seam of the 1st two. The tires are filled with dirt. Nothing anyone would want to shoot from their shoulder is getting through my backstop. :)

I'd love to find some cow shoulder blades. I'd stick them about 2 inches inside and to the front of the first bag and about 2 inch inside on the backside of the 3rd bag. That would be around 36 inches of penetration though wet sawdust and bones. I bet my Lee C300-RFN load would shoot through it.

I still have a lot of testing to do before my bear hunt next fall. In actuality, 80% of the further testing that I will be doing is not needed. But it is fun. :)

I tested the 300 grain EXP Magnum for tumbling today. I set up 4 "yard sign" 30" x 30" foam boards. They were set at 25 yards, 50 yards and 100 yards. It's a bit tougher to line up 3 targets and put a bullet through all 3 than I initially thought it would be. haha I did manage to get 3 of the 5 shots through all three targets. The holes were perfect, so the bullet isn't tumbling in flight.

Moon Tree, have you been bear hunting with the .45? After witnessing the performance of the .45 Colt 250 gr. XTPs this past weekend on antelope, I would confidently use them on either black bear or elk. I recovered one of the bullets we fired into the 4 speed goats we got. I'll weigh and photograph it this weekend. Suffice it to say it is perfectly mushroomed and still heavy.

Oh, and BTW, I'm also a fan of the XTPs that Hornady makes in some other calibers.

I load 3 weights of .32 XTPs for .32 Long and .32 H&R mag inserts I use in my 8x57 jrs drilling. The 9 mm XTP I load for my 9x18 Makarov insert for my 9.3x74rm drilling, and the .357 XTP I load in 9x80rm shells for my old underlever hammer drilling.

These lightweight plinking type loads work for grouse, squirrel, deer finishing loads etc. They are quiet, accurate, very low recoil, and inexpensive.

I plan on getting out this weekend to do some more testing. This year I am using the 240 grain mag xtp in my .45 92. The load I am using is 27.4 grains of H110. I have not chrono 'ed this load yet but it feels quite stout and is very accurate in my gun. I don't think it will have any trouble taking out a fat whitetail. I wanted to try this load/bullet combo because it seems a little easier on the gun. Shooting the mag loads with 300 grainers seems to be putting a bit of stress on the mag tube and screw on my gun. I will report back in next week.
Good Luck hunters.

Well no shooters. I will have to wait for the late doe season now in a few weeks. Its muzzel season here now.
Shot a nice buck during the regular season with a 460 S&W encore rifle and have meat, but shooting one with that does not have the cool factor like when you shoot one with a 92.
