First Cast

Post by LowKey »

I left the house before sunrise Sunday morning.

The fog in the city was nothing compared to the fog on the two mile shell road
leading to my friend’s wooded property.

Another early bird on a four wheeler was just getting ready to try his luck fishing
in the canal adjacent to the shell road. He had picked a spot where a drainage pipe
emptied into the canal. The more experienced have figured out that those pipes
are like a conveyor belt of bait for the waiting bass.

The gentleman said he was just getting started.

I told him that some fisherman say that you catch the biggest fish of the day
on that first cast. So I asked if he minded if I stuck around for a second.

He said he didn’t mind, and he made a good cast a couple of feet short
of the other side of the canal.

Before I could blink, his pole was bent in half as he quickly reeled in his line.

I asked him, “Are you messing with me, or do you have a fish?”

That's awesome, I love using light rig poles so when I fish for rock bass or crappie or blue gill it seems like I have a whopper, and it's truly only a whopper Jr. lol. That bass there is not bad size at all healthy not old great eatin. +guns

Lol.

I like light tackle too, AK.

Went from a 7 ft pole to a 5 1/2 ft pole for trout and redfish in the marsh.
When a big redfish hits the line, you feel ike you're fighting a marlin.
Great fun.

I don't fish but both my Marlins don't require a fight.

Don't you love it when a plan comes together. :)
