The issue of getting skunked (literally) was raised in another thread. Not wanting to derail that conversation I offer this as a solution that has worked for me on several occasions.
I have used this for years. Just keep it out of the eyes. Not only does it work on the pet, it can be splashed onto most anything that may have been in the target zone..... fences, trees, house, deck and yes it works on humans also.
Just keep these ingredients handy to whip up a batch whenever needed.
1 quart of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
1/2 cup of Baking Soda
1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap
Thoroughly mix these ingredients together
Rub it deep into the fur....... taking care to avoid the eyes.
Rinse well to remove the solution.
You may need to double or even triple this recipe depending on the size of "the victim" .... and whatever other items may need to de-skunked.
I keep a couple of quarts of the peroxide and a box of soda in the shed. That way if I "need" it there is no need to reenter the house to get the supplies......ask me how I know.

Thanks!
The only thing that I would add to the formula is that the soap be Dawn Ultra. I've really become a believer in it for my shop use. It is the stuff that is used to was the birds caught up in oil spills. I use it as an oil remover and after all that is skunk juice is.

Re: Skunked
hmm. worth printing out and putting with the other home remedies
for the pets. Thanks TinMan.
I always heard tomato juice was the ticket but fortunately our hounds
never encountered a skunk so never proven.
I agree with RD concerning Dawn Ultra it's super good !
Now if someone has a solution to sweeten the smell of Flash's really
stinky silent farts ??? He can clear a room in a heartbeat !!!
WHAT ?

Change his food. My friend's dog was the same way. They actually put him on gluten free dog food (who would have guessed that they actually make that?). Anyways, his is much more plesent to be around now.

Re: Skunked
As a follow-up ... picked up some Buffalo Blue " Freedom " at
Pet Smart yesterday. No gluttens ! Got a small bag to try and
am mixing it with the other BB that he normally eats. So far
so good ... no " smell test " yet, will wean him off the other
when it's gone. Another plus is that the caloric content is less
and he can stand to lose some weight.
