Good News Bad News

Post by lovemytrapper »

Good News. This morning i shot a 8 point buck. The bad news is it was with my 1975 winchester Model 94. He was 75 yards away across a small valley. Still wonfering if fixing up my 45 colt trapper is worth it for whitetail here in Michigan. What do you folks think?

Congratulations!

I hear that Yankee 8 pointers are bigger than Southern 8 pointers.

Any pics or weight info?

What, you don't think that the 45c has enough to drop one at 75 yards?

I do not think it would have any problem.

My 45 Colt is capable. If you reload or use something like the Buffalo Bore ammo, it is more than capable and for twice that distance. I don't shoot "standard" 45 Colt ammo from my R92 but I suspect others hunt with it.

Don't doubt the killing power of a standard 255gr .45 Colt load at over eight hundred feet per second. And the carbine will only amplify that velocity with the longer burn time for the powder. If you can hit the target then the .45 Colt will do it's part.

I've always been a fan of bit fat slower moving slugs. They've proved their value in any number of ways over the years and why I carry a 1911 or some variant.
