Family fun with the 38/357

Post by dvw86 »

My all time favorite round is the 44 magnum, but I have a soft spot for the 38/357.

My father is a retired police officer. For years his duty gun was a S&W revolver in 38 special. That was the first gun my three bothers and I learned to shoot. When the revolvers were "upgraded" to autos, Dad bought his trusty 38 from the department.

As we boys grew up we all acquired 38/357s as well. Now my dad and I live close to each other but the rest of the brothers are scattered all over. Every two years we get together and the brothers come from Seattle, New York and Mexico. So before hand, I cast a few hundred wheel weight bullets and my dad loads them up as light 38s. The boys all bring their 38/357s consisting of Dad's old duty gun, S&W Chief Special, Rossi made chief Special, S&W 686, Ruger Blackhawk, Ruger LCR, Winchester 94 in 357, Ruger SP101 and perhaps some others that I overlooked. We then have a family day at the range and take turns shooting everyone's guns with the handloaded 38s. It's a great time to talk and catch up. Now we have a Rossi m92 in 38/357 to add to the mix as well. Can't wait for the next gathering :D
