lymans molds for the rossi's

Post by runfiverun »

like the title says.
i use lyman molds for the rossi's.
which do you guy's use?
i currently use the 429667 for the 44 mag's
the 452664 for the 45 colt's
the same profile 358 rnfp in the 357 and in my [original] rossi 6" revolver.
a magma engineering 200gr mold for the 44-40
however none of them will work in the browning 44 mag 92 rifle because of thier nose length.
it will not feed anything over the 1.610 length.
so, what do you all use in your leverguns?

Greetings runfiverun, glad to have you onboard. I'm using my two 45 caliber"Ranch Dog" molds with my RG4570. They were designed for the Marlins and their over-diameter throats. The RG4570 chamber is cut very close to the SAAMI spec, unusual for any firearm nowadays, so I must use a shorter cartridge OAL. I just trim the cases to match the crimp groove.

I have a RG30-30 being rebore/rechambered by JES from 30-30 Win to 38-55 Win. Still waiting on it and will design a bullet around it.

Once my R92 44 Mag Scout Rifle is here, I will use my existing 44 Mag bullets with it. As a business, I have a pretty good following of customers that have Rossi's and are already using the bullets so I expect no issues. I do have a new TLC432-240-RF that I received yesterday for testing. It will find immediate use with my Scout Rifle.

None. I'm using my current TLC379-235-RF. Sometime this year I will have a C380-250-RF, might be a C381, to address the needs of the 38-55 with the .380 bores.

Looking for a good, tumble lubed, NON-gc mold for a 45-70 gov't. Not sure if I'll need to size at .457 or 458 yet, as I'm still awaiting the rifle, but anyone with a Rio grande, don't be afraid to shout out here, as that's what I'll be loading for.

Sorry I missed this. I use the .460 bullet. The Rio Grande does not have much of a throat so you will need to trim your brass shorter for a reduced overall length. On my to-do list I have "order a throat reamer" for this rifle to relieve that need to trim the brass. I will use a gentle 3° taper and ream with this hand tool until I can chamber the cartridge with my bullet at a 2.55" OAL. Every time I try to call Pacific Tool, their phone is busy. You cannot order from them online, old school. Bummer.

Once I have the tool and if it is as easy as I've been told it is to do, I will make the tool available to forum members through my store. All I will require is a refundable deposit plus shipping both ways, buying the return label as you request the tool.

i'd shoot for 459 or even 460.
i have been using 459 in my ummm non rossi browning 86.
i'll be trying the rd 425 in it though, as i had let my 405 gr. mold go some time ago.
i found a few of those in the reloading room and of course they shot very well.
i found the r/d mold in my little used mould drawer [didn't even know i owned it]
we'll see how it does.
the rossi's do well with the lyman profile nose that has a very short paralell and then starts it's taper to the flat point.
the r/d has too much paralell in this area to match the throat shape.
you might have enough neck tension to get away with seating short and no crimp.
i'd try a couple and watch for setback.

I have the same problem with one of my H&R handi's in 45/70 I need to get a hand reamer and relieve the throat a bit so I don't have to keep shortening brass just for this rifle . Tried every bullet configuration but it keeps getting hung up :( .
