.30-30 Cast Bullet Mold

Bringing home an older (1951) Marlin 336RC that I think will be pre-micro groove....

Anyway, I tried to add to THIS TOPIC but the forum rules didn't allow it.

I like the mold in that topic but it's $100 and is a six holer. I'd prefer something affordable with two or four holes. I already have Redding dies and a NOE .310-.314" expander plug.

Need to know if the NOE plug requires the Lee 90798 (or similar).

Lastly, what's wrong with Lyman 311291 for this application besides the price?

Where is the best place to get .30 cal gas checks?

(notice I got lever #2) +corn +guns

Yes, it does.

Personally, I would rather cast with an aluminum mold, and I'd rather have the Lee custom six-cavity mold you referenced over the 2-cavity Lyman, It would be a few more bucks well spent. If you are considering the Lyman, I would just go with the Lee C309-150-F or C309-170-F, but every time that I cast with a 2-cavity mold, I consider buying jacketed bullet and getting rid of my casting equipment. To me, it's painfully slow.

Thanks RD.

I got some Sierra 2000s off an estate then sold them for pennies to a friend that won't sell them back!

All my molds are doubles. I've not tried a sixer so maybe I should now.

At the price of those Sierras (retail) I only need to cast 300 (not counting alloy or electrical costs) to break even on the custom mold......but I have to buy .30 cal gas checks and a size die and a top punch.

the lyman 311 molds have been lyman 308ish molds in the last few years.

I'd spend the 90$ at NOE and get the RD-165 mold with the standard lube grooves in a 4 cavity.
also look around their site some.
I think Al sells Gator check gas checkss, you'll find them about 10-15$ a thousand cheaper than Hornady's.
I have used them in both the 30-30 and 308 win. up into the 2400 fps area so i'll say they work just fine.

Thanks run. I bought the one above because of its reputation and the price shipped with handles was $75.00.

Now just gotta get in hand and see which version it is.

I think I got it covered over on the Lee forum. If anyone here needs the info, I would be happy to provide it.
