Lyman 358429

Have a new R92 in 357 coming. Been looking over my stash of 357/38 reloads to use in it. Wondering if anyone uses the subject bullet in theirs? Specifically will the 358429 feed when crimped over the front driving band? A cursory search tells me they are often too long when crimped in the groove, so looking for your experience.

Also have loads with the Lee 358-158GC and a few with jacketed (is that OK to say here?) bullets. I'm an oldie, but looking forward as a kid at Christmas to getting my new toy. Mine's blue, BTW.

I think you are safe to say "jacketed" .... we aren't "that silly" here

Should function crimped in the groove up to at least 1.65" if not quite a bit more.

Check the links at the bottom of the page and maybe there will be more topics. I know we discussed the 360180 a lot a couple months ago and it's kinda similar.

My 357 R92 fed the 35849 perfectly in 38 Special cases. Cant say about the 357 cases.

I have some loaded in 38's also, (38 spec pressure) but also have an LCR 38 in the house and don't want to have even the remotest chance that one loaded to near mag pressure might find it's way into it. The 357 case loaded with the crimp over the front is slightly longer OAL, but of course won't fit 38 chambers. This i how I have to load 357's for my Mod 28 Smith anyway, Mod 19 is good with the longer round.

I believe the 358429 was designed to shoot near magum loads in 38 brass by Keith, et al. This LCR is my wife's and I want to keep her. Besides, somehow I have a lot more 357 brass. 38 brass is really old and been getting splits, etc., lately.

I'd try them crimped in the groove first. If they are a little to long you can file back the front of the tit on the carrier. It usually does not take much filing to gain enough clearance for them to feed.

I have not had very good luck with that bullet in 38 cases and at 38 velocities. It does not stabilize well going very slow. At 25 yards it might do ok, but at 100 mine shot all over the place. It does a lot better going as fast as you can push it.

Thanks, Don. I got my 92 yesterday and aftert running a patch or two thru it we went out to the pit and shot it mainly for function. Had a couple of hangups with the bullet crimped in the groove in mag cases, none when seated over the front. The lee 158 gr. GC bullet worked flawlessly and the Lee 125 RF as well.

When I picked up my gun I spied a box of Speer 170 gr. Uni-cor and found these have been discontinued. However, I found the same product # on the 170 gr. Deep Curl but the pic they show doen't look like what I bought. Not sure if they made changes or what. Anyway, had a good time, wife even seemed to enjoy shooting it. Yes, I plan to push the Lyman bullet fairly fast. Have a couple of lbs of 2400 to try with it and other heavier bullets. Ran outta H110. Use Unique for most of my mid-range stuff and BE for MF loads. R92 looks to be a lotta fun. Don't know how a guy would sneak up on deer though. Cocking the thing is noisy. Mine's mainly for fun, though.
