Loading some 30-30 to fireform 30-30 Ackley Improved.

Because this is only for popping the cases, I want to do it on the cheap, here's what I've come up with...

Hy-tec coated 115gr M1 Carbine bullet, 7.4 gr of Trail Boss.

QuickLoad (which I'm new to) seems to show this, the caviat being the quality of my QuickLoad steup:

Cartridge : .30-30 Win. (SAAMI)
Bullet : .308, 115, LYM LSp GC 311359
Useable Case Capaci: 40.066 grain H2O = 2.601 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 2.550 inch = 64.77 mm
Barrel Length : 13.0 inch = 330.2 mm
Powder : IMR TrailBoss

Predicted data by increasing and decreasing the given charge,
incremented in steps of 3.0% of nominal charge.
CAUTION: Figures exceed maximum and minimum recommended loads !

Can someone verify this load so I don't hurt anything?

I think that Hodgdon does not recommend less than 70% case fill with Trail Boss. It looks like 7.4-grains provides a 59% case fill from your data. When I had an AI, I used 5-grains of Unique to form my cases. Shot turtles on my ponds while I was doing.

I found a topic about my work on Shooter's Forum: RD's 30-30AI Q#1 - Fireforming Cases

Used a .311 Round Ball that I cast and 10.7-grains of Unique (1.3cc Lee Dipper) to get good chamber definition. Those 30 caliber balls were zipping along at 2395 FPS.

I had also found this, see the chart on page 3.

https://www.loaddata.com/articles/PDF/L ... d%20LR.pdf

Part of the reason I went with 7.4 is that I'm using dippers (just for these fireforms, didn't want to set up the press).
