16" 44 300gr XTP and h110

Post by Spider »

Just put 20 rnds together with new star line brass , h110 18.0 gr, Cci mag primer, and a 300gr XTP. Haven't shot them yet but I'm building an elk load. Any experiences with this load? The 240 XTP over 24gr is another Im working with. Yes it will be a shoulder buster but I want a 100y elk rnd. Then I can go back to my plinkers.

groo here
I would suggest a soft point or hard cast.
for large game driving deeply is the name of the game.
Little or no deformation.

The 240 and the 300 XTP shot great with h110. I do have some cast 245gr with GC lm tempted to load up. Shot a deer with one last year sitting on 13 or so gr of hs-6 out of my 629-1 8 3/8 S&W. 60y pass through, went maybe 10y and dropped. I find the 13 gr HS-6 load to be very accurate, same with the H110. The latter I believe is moving a lot faster.

Just curious, have you chronographed your loads?

No chrono. Buying powder and primers these days. I shoot them through scrap metal to judge the power factor. If they penetrate 1/8" steel at 100y, they are pretty good in my book.
