Anybody using IMR4227 and .45 Colt 255gr lead bullets in 24" rifles? Looking for a load recommendation for my new '92.
Thanks!

The barrel length does not affect the pressure generated only FPS. If you give me the bullet length and the cartridge overall length, I can run it in QuickLoad.

Don't know if it will help but I have been loading 20 gr of IMR 4227 under a Sierra 240 gr JHC #8820. It is very accurate, shoots at 1220 fps from my Henry 45 with 20" barrel. Out on Load Data I found one listing for 255s and IMR 4227, from a Handloader article I think. It listed 20 grains and was tested in a Win 94-AE Trapper. It didn't say min max or start but did say case expansion was normal. YMMV

No I have not, but it sounds like fun.rondog wrote:Anybody using IMR4227 and .45 Colt 255gr lead bullets in 24" rifles? Looking for a load recommendation for my new '92.

Don't ask me to do anything where where I can't take Bible and Gun, I would leave Dog home, but reluctantly.

Welp, I made a box of 20gr's, box of 21's, and a box of 22's. They all worked well, the Rossi handled them better than my shoulder. I do believe the 21gr loads were the most accurate, probably use the rest of those for deer season.
But I don't think I want 'em that hot for general plinking, they were rather robust! Sure knocked the snot out of my 8" steel gong though. Those things were hitting HARD!
