A couple of advantages to the steps - 1) you get clean primer pockets 2) your clean cases wont scratch you sizing dies. Granted you can get #2 by using the vibratory but I've never gotten clean primer pockets in dry media. When I started using pins I thought I'd just use them on my black powder cases, but after I saw what it did for them I started using it on all my cases and particularly on range brass.
