Re: .222 Remington
Been there done that.
Unless there's a better deal or specific reason to do otherwise I usually build up component brass with factory. It is usually cheaper than starting with new components. You've probably got enough OFB that you need not start there.

Re: .222 Remington
Finally have the rifle in hand. My dummy won't chamber. Haven't looked into it yet but I have a plan.
I have to clean the gun. It's not nasty but I need to reduce variables.
I have to try a case with no bullet to determine if it's the top or bottom. I have both FL and neck dies. Possibly used neck die on brass from another chamber by mistake. There's little chance it's my longer OAL (with polymer tip) causing the sticking (1/4" from chambering) but the empty case test should tell me. Could possibly be the crappy deburr I did back when the dummy was made (now corrected).
I can't find markings to tell me what the gun is. By memory of its looks I'd still say it's a Savage. The stock is whittled away a little on the left side for the angled scope mounts. The scope has no markings but is very bright and clear (single power likely 4X). The rings are marked Weaver. I'm guessing the scope is a Weaver too. All of it looks to be early '60's.

Re: .222 Remington
Can you post some pics of the rifle? I'll bet some of the guys here can figure out what it is.

Re: .222 Remington
Naked previously prepped (and better deburr) brass drops right in. Mocked up another dummy and it drops right in. I'll check the lot again before I make any real ammo.
I have to service the rifle before I do anything else. Hard to tell what's happening in the chamber when the empty gun doesn't cycle smoothly.
Since I know it's a Savage 340C and the two piece base the gun was DT'd for is Weaver, tell me what this scope is. As posted above I think it's some sort of Weaver as well.

Re: .222 Remington
Came to this too late but bolt assembly was the tell as to it being some model of Savage 340. Weaver has been proud of their products and has always marked the tubes. Scopes of this period are marked in the 12 o'clock position just forward of the eye bell threads. I've highlighted a K4 I have on hand with a Silver Sharpie.

Re: .222 Remington
So the marking is under the rear ring. I bet it's a K4.

Re: .222 Remington
Maybe so. Pull the two screws on the aft mount and slide the strap forward. Only take a second.GasGuzzler wrote:So the marking is under the rear ring. I bet it's a K4.
