.222 Remington
My dad has an old inherited .222 he uses for longer range pest control at home. He's not having any luck finding factory ammo so he's buying me some dies to reload his empties. I will be using mundane .224 FMJs (with HP if I can find some in my stash), standaed CCI SRPs, and likely either H335 or W748 because it's what I have and this is a low volume usage gun. Any first hand experience with this combo? Yes, I have manuals and can look up loads on the internet, just wondering what others have used with a 55 grain bullet and these two powders.
TIA
TIA

Re: .222 Remington
Thanks. Not really interested in paying that much for factory. I'm more looking for anyone that's got experience with .222 Rem and 55gr pills used with H335 or W748 at $0.20 per round.

How about two out of three?GasGuzzler wrote:Thanks. Not really interested in paying that much for factory. I'm more looking for anyone that's got experience with .222 Rem and 55gr pills used with H335 or W748 at $0.20 per round.
I worked up a load for my dad's 788 in 222 last year but used 60gr softpoints and H335. It works well. No pressure signs at max charges and it's very accurate.

OK. Sounds good. Hints? I have some 60s too.

Re: .222 Remington
GG,
I've never loaded for the 222, but I thought that the 52 grain match bullets were "made" for the that round. Not saying 55 and 60 wont work. But even in my 22/250 the 52s were by far the most accurate.
Gas, I have a box full of brass, a set of dies, and a trim die, that were left to me by a BIL. He never shot that gun much before he got rid of it, so I know the brass is good. You want to trade sumpin fo this stuff? I really like the looks of those bullets you have been casting as I do not have a heavy bullet to try in my 360DW and that one has a short enough nose that it would work out fine.

Re: .222 Remington
Awesome offer.
I bought dies yesterday. The sizer is a neck sizer. Didn't bother me since all the brass we have (40 pieces or so) is 1X from this gun. Not sure if you have a FL or NS size die but it looks like your trade items are worth a lot more than my bullets.
Send me a PM if you want to discuss it.
Thanks!

Re: .222 Remington
I've pretty much failed updating this topic....maybe because it's yet another rambling weird set of words that I made or maybe because the triple deuce is not as common as it once was.
I've settled on 55gr polymer tip (yes, I bought more jacketed). Made a dummy to check feed before I start spending seated primers or dumping H335.
I'll do a rudimentary 0.5gr spread three rung ladder with the powder charges coded so Dad has an organic experience without expectation on recoil, etc. and then I'll pick the best of the three.
I need to build or buy a few standards to square away the glass before we ladder it.
Internet pics always required.

GG,
I think Selway Armory had the .222 Rem from Privi on sale for something like $8.99/box.

Re: .222 Remington
I've spent too much money saving money to buy any factory ammo. I'm gonna check feed on this dummy and build my ladder rounds. Might use some of the remaining 1970's factory to square the glass.
