Archer,

I have always used whatever primers I had when loading for my M1A and Garand, and carbine, and never gave it a second thought. And never had a slam fire. Now in the past year or so I'm getting scared to do that cause I keep reading about how dangerous it could be (damn internet).

Don,
I ran a couple thousand Federal through my first Garand before I ran into the slam fire argument.
I know a couple competitors who used Federal Match exclusively and who poo poo the slam fire argument.
Their argument seems to be that if it hasn't happened to them it can't happen period. I find myself rather unmoved by their position.

I know another former competitor who essentially said 'I hope you AREN'T using CCI primers' and then proceeded to gift me a couple thousand CCI primers to keep them away from his grandson...

I know another fellow who uses CCI military exclusively in his semi autos and who can shoot the pants off just about anyone else I've met.

I have 4-6 thousand Federal Match LR primers and quite a few SR match primers that I've been avoiding loading for my semis due to the slam fire argument. I have several military style free floating firing pin weapons in both large and small primer calibers. My preference has usually been for Winchester primers for these rifles but like you have often used what I could get particularly during the Clinton years just after I started reloading. I was well enough stocked during Obama's tenure that store stocks was not an issue.

Well it's been years! the days and years have rolled over.
I was looking back at this post, I never got the FTX to run well.
Did anyone get them going well?
I picked up today some 158gr XTP, I think ill stick with them.
On another note, the 92's sat in another safe all this time.
I was around there a little while ago and picked up the lever.
Thinking back to when this was full noise, having moved away from using it in the last 3+ years.
I had built a .223 with a DPT can on it. just love this bunny rifle.
But will load up for the Rossi and play again.
