I expect that the barrel twist rate for a given caliber in the model 92 Rossi stays the same regardless of barrel length. I could be wrong on that but I expect not.

The loads for 2400 are using Alliant (formerly Hercules) powder.

KH,
Quick before you get off line

I did not say unique 9.0 to 10.5 in a 357 did I????? If I did, that was an error DO NOT DO THAT!!!
That sounds like a Blue Dot load.

I don't use that much unique in a 44 mag! I Around 8.0 is max in a 357 -158g

Archer,

I have maybe 6-7 reloading books. But mostly use the old Lyman one and a newer Lyman cast bullet book. I bought the new Lee manual because it has several of the newer powders in it that were not in the old books. And about the Alliant 300 data. After seeing that listed in the Lee book, and it was so much faster than the other powders. I looked at the Alliant web site and the data there was exactly the same.......looks like Lee just copied Alliant's data, dern it. I thought they had done real testing. Now I have to suspect all there other data as just being reprinted data from "reliable" sources.

And Alliant kinda did a ringer job on there new 300MP data by shooting it in a long barrel with no cylinder gap. Another example of that "HYPE" I was talking about earlier.

But KH, you are correct about me trying it out, as last knight, I loaded up a few rounds in 0.5 grain increments with a 158 grain jacketed soft point on top. Before when I shot it, I was using some of my cast 158s and 170 swc bullets, and I could tell that it was going to be a "thumper?" propellant. I plan to go to the range today with the chrono, to see how it performs speed wise.

Yes Alliant 2400 IS a good powder for your load. It will not get the highest velocity, but it's not much slower. It can use a standard primer, and it is capable of working with reduced charges.

Yeah, that Paco Kelly article has some really hot loads in it. Everything that guy wrote has hot, hot, loads in it. Use that info carefully.

Thanks for the input 2400 9.3 grains @ 1200 FPS TO 13.8 grains @ 1600 FPS. Is Alliant 2400 :?:
This may be some where to start.

That sounds like a good idea!
If I had that bullet and powder I would load 5 rounds at 9.0 grains, then load five @ .. 9.5g, and so on all the way to 13.5g. The reason I only do five of each is in case I hit pressure signs at say 12.5grains. Then that doesn't leave me with too many to have to pull back apart.

Nick Harvey's book 9th revised has 140gn with 2400 13.1 1685 15.1 1795 .
Such a contrast in loading data
2400 9.3 grains @ 1200 FPS TO 13.8 grains @ 1600 FPS
Yes Don I have been a fan of the five shot group for years.
It's a better way of finding how the group is really going, and if you pull a shot as I have done at less it will show up as most times you know what you have done.
I have had shots grouping the same with 55gn as the load with 43gn on paper.
So I just stayed with the 43gn, less powder for the same zero and no deer is going to know how much faster one was from the other.
The scope arrived from over there today, and it rattled as I took it out of the packet.
I hope the others not like that, the time it's sent back etc.
There will be a bit to play with in the seating, as wont know what I can get away with without trimming to much.
Also what the jump off will be in the chamber, a lot of little things to make it run. +corn
Well it's that time for me +zzz 2am

Oh, I meant 5 shots just for finding where maximum is. When I'm searching for the max load limit, I rarely worry about grouping. After I know where max is, then I'll drop back a few steps in the ladder, and start over, looking for the best grouping load.

I got that Alliant 300MP info. Went and shot a good bit today just to see what 300 and some other loads were clocking. I'm going to make a new post bout it though as it does not really belong in this one.

Don,
Looked to me like your most recent Unique data was from the Lyman 47 pistol info:
Unique .....6.4 to 8.3 @ 1185
Before that you listed Lee's data and before that you said your favorite load was 6.0 grains behind a 170 gr SWC in .357.

Wonder why Hornady reported their Rossi as 1:16 twist.
I was thinking of doing the cleaning rod spin with mine but it seems 1:30 is reported in most reviews that bother.
