New Marlin 1894C 357 pre purchase review.

Post by golfish »

This afternoon I spent some time at Turners Outdoorsman, they have the new Marlin 1894C .357 on sale, $659.98
I took a look at the display model. The wood was better than any gun that I have seen at this price. The action was tight, the bluing was deep and rich. Its a beautiful gun.

Now for the bad. The front sight was canted to the left, I gave it back to the counter guy and told him the problem...He looked at it and said "oh yeah".. you would think that a big chain store like this would check the display guns before they put em out.

I bet it's been put right back on the rack. Some homer will come along and buy it.

How many years has it been since remington took over marlin?
If they cant get it right by now, i doubt they ever will.

TEN years and production moved from NH CT in 2011.

I've read some good reviews on these new guns, but come on. Canted sights have always been a complaint, and for this store to put this gun on the rack, its crazy.

Buddy of mine looked over the display gun and ordered the last one allotted to the Turner's location in question. He's looked over his actual gun and said he couldn't see anything wrong with it at all.
The salesguy said they were selling like hotcakes and expecting more in.
Sounds like everyone who's been looking for them the past few years is snapping them up.
I'd have considered it but I've already committed to a few other purchases.

I have a Rossi .357 that had canted sights. I wrapped a rag around the barrel, put it in my bench vise, then tightened the receiver just a skosh with my hands. Fixed 'er right up.

It would seem that quality control training at the factory is still sadly lacking. Bad enough the store displayed it, but fact is it shouldn't have left the factory in the first place.
