Winchester 1892 gamble

Post by Coop 45 »

I want to get everyone's opinion.

My wife was silly enough to leave me alone watching Deadwood as well as having the laptop. I was looking for a project rifle and came across a 1892 Winchester in 25-20 with the octagonal barrel. The serial number puts the manufacture date at 1910. It's at a gun shop for $450. By the time I pay postage and permit fees that will put it up to about $530. I have emailed the guy for photos but he says he does not have a camera.

So, is this worth buying sight unseen?

Good morning
Not me. If it was half that price maybe. One mans opinion will be vastly different than another's. Now if a person I have dealt with tells me about it that would count. I figure near 2000 years ago the Lord Jesus said." Which one of you would buy a horse without proving it first ? " I still think those are wise words.

No this is typical scam online I don't have camera why sell online then and if you have a picture posted how did you do that then. He obviously doesn't need to sell it or is trying to hide something. I'd advise to not buy it unless its a well known seller that backs their online sales. Which by not willing to get you pics doesn't gain my confidence.

Just for a bit more info,

It's a small country town shop that has a very basic website with no online sales features, just a pdf with the second hand rifles they have. So I would have to ring them up to buy it and then they would have to mail it as it's about 900 km away. As a comparison a brand new Rossi 92 20" stainless in 357 would be selling for about $900 here in Australia at the moment.

Well I can understand having a rural location with limited technology. I responded so fast I didn't look at it by geographical location. Keep us posted this has my curiosity peaked.

Mine too,

We don't see to many Winchester 92's in 25-20 with the octagonal barrels down here. There are a few with the round barrel but they have the half length magazines and I'm not a fan of those. Thy just don't look right to me.

Best I could advise is to have a friend or family member or ex girlfriend that lives near the shop if so lucky to help you out and get you some pics? Fingers crossed for you +corn

Coop

Take a couple days off and make a road trip, then you can put your eyeballs on it directly.

Problem solved! Simple! :)

Tempting, very tempting.

900 km there, 900 back. $1.30/litre for deisel. A car that does about 10 litres / 100 km = $234

But I do have two weeks off from Monday ..........
