Marlin 1895SBL

Post by massmanute »

I just won a Marlin 1895SBL on Gunbroker. It should arrive at my FFL in a few days.

Well bought might be a better term than 'won' since it is no doubt costing you money.
(The one I won cost me about $400 in basic optics and good mounts plus ammo since it was in a caliber I didn't have prior to that. The last firearm auction I won probably ran me about $700 but it's been over a decade since I bought a firearm through an auction.)

I like the look, like the large loop that's practical instead of stupid hula hoop oversized.
Might prefer a 20" barrel.
Be sure to check it out with a fine toothed comb.

Yes, "bought" is a better term, especially since it was actually a "buy it now" listing.

By the way, I noticed that the 300 grain low recoil 45-70 load that Buffalo Bore sells has a trajectory almost identical to the 180 grain Buffalo Bore in .357 magnum, within a small fraction of an inch out to 200 yards, and quite close at even longer ranges. (I base this on calculations performed using the online ballistics calculator at Handloads.com.)

Any suggestions for a nice sling, especially one that isn't too expensive?

I haven't slung any of my lever guns.
I think we've had a sling discussion or two on either the 92 board or maybe in the Topic Bucket board where some of the other guys have commented.
