Yeah, 444 Marlin brass in just a few short years has become impossible to find.

The cheapest I can find the 265 grain Hornady load is about $160 plus S&H for 100 rounds.

The only other ammo I can find is the Remington 240 grain load a more money and the 265 grain FTX load that supposedly doesn't like this twist rate at about $5-$10 less.

You will not be sorry. It is no better than a 45-70 but fills a nice nitch when a 300 grainer or less is all that is needed.
I found my 41-444 shot the 265-280 grainers nicely which is what I had hoped for.

It would be a better woods gun than my .45-70 which is a bit heavy, especially on deer and maybe elk but it is not really a preferred system for this kind of terrain. If I ever move back to parts east a state or five it might be quite nice.

Got the ammo on order, I hope.
Along with three boxes of Hornady's .265 grain interlock FP bullets.
If this sucker kicks like everyone says I just might end up loading those bullets in .44 Mag for the Rossi and Winchester.

I'm contemplating the possibilities of fire lapping the Rossi guns and maybe the Marlin and one or two or the Winchesters and maybe getting into casting. It would sure be nice to be able to put out bullets for the .44 Mag, .444 Marlin, .45-70 and maybe the .357 in nice RNFPs with a lot of flat up front.

I do not think a 444 with a 265 grainer is going to kick "that much". Lots of people seldom shoot and some have not figured out that laying down on a bench to shoot a fat bore rifle is not a good idea.
Sitting upright so the body can recoil with the rifle is the way to go. I use cross sticks for the heavy thumpers. I weigh a whole 148 lbs. today and would not hesitate to fire most any rifle sitting in the dirt with my cross sticks out front. Sitting, kneeling and standing are all good recoil absorbers.
I have shot 342 grainers in my 336 caliber .41-444. They would flat hurt bad laying behind it. But off cross sticks it is just another wack and roll back with the recoil. Now the 375 H&H with 300 grainers rattles the head but has never hurt my shoulder using cross sticks. But I will not shoot that one off a bench.

Oh, and Mike is 100% correct .... it's compounded many times over trying to shoot "from the bench".

But it's difficult to get a true perspective on dialing it in without the bench. Double edged sword.

I'll admit I just read a couple articles before my previous couple posts where a .444 Marlin lover said he shot his off the bench with a 24 # bag of shot between his shoulder and the gun, at least until he got the ported version which he claimed made it feel like shooting a .30-30. Now I've had a couple buds claim my .30-30 Winchester 94 is one of the worst kicking guns they've ever fired. Except for the time I emptied it in a range as fast as I could starting with a full magazine and chamber of heavy loaded 170 grainers AND during the same range session did the same thing with my old High Standard patrol 12 gauge with heavy buckshot loads I never thought it to be THAT bad. On that particular range day however I think I hurt myself. Pushups were a royal pain where the ribs were connected to the breast bone for several weeks afterward.
