that all reminds me of a little incident in 2015. I bought a NIB .45 acp Springfield XDS with the intentions of making it my normal "social event" carry gun and retire the Kahr 9mm. For the first two weeks I had it, that Springer was really proving it's place in the carry rotation. Then, I got word that Springfield had just announced a safety recall on that model and sent out the info for obtaining a UPS shipping ticket, etc. I got the ticket the same night, boxed it up and had it at the UPS shipping office the next morning. Man, was that ever a mistake. That pistol had almost as smooth, clean breaking a trigger as Kahr pistols, and around a 6 lb (double action/striker fired) trigger. Springfield didn't even have a clue how to address the issue and ended up with thousands of pistols waiting to be "repaired". I was in the earliest batch of returns so by their system I was in the early repair/return group ..... took about 6 weeks to get it back. The trigger was turned nasty, gritty, 9+ lbs - my ffl bud had a hard time even guessing due to the limitations of his trigger gage. I sold it along with the "free magazine" and certified paper work of the factory refurb/repair the next week.

I really believe the whole issue was pretty much bogus to begin with, very much like I've always felt about the attack on the Remington 700 rifles. That's just my opinion though.

Here is the reply I got back from Taurus...Not sure about liability, now that the gun has been tagged unsafe, if something would happen.

"You can get the original firearm back but it will have to come back with an unsafe letter. If you would like to proceed with the replacement offer we would need an FFL on file for you. You will have to pay the transfer fee but once that is paid you can submit the receipt through email for a refund. "

It is a tough one to decide Pete. Was an explanation offered as to why your pistol failed? Probably not. The easiest way out of this might be to take the 605. If your model of the revolver was stainless, you should push for the same. Rossi is out of the pistol business, not sure what to do either.

Taurus recalled their Millenium Pro series into the dirt. A $325 pistol in exchange for a $175, with nothing else offered not even the FFL transfer fee. I liked the guns and have them chambered in 32, 380, and 45 Auto plus the 9mm Luger. I have a new 745, the 45 Auto, still in the box. I liked the first one I bought so well that I put one in the safe as Taurus has a bad habit of ending models and their parts to make you buy something new. I will carry and shoot them also long as they or I last, I'm not buying any more pistols from anyone. I probably will do the same with my revolver, by ignoring Rossi.

Ranch Dog,
No reason why the revolver couldn't be fixed. I wonder it they are all that way??

Now I can't get them to respond to my last 2 emails. Looks like I will have to call, again. See if they will answer a call.

I am picking up another cheap Rossi revolver today. Like my other Rossis it's old so it has a better chance of being quality built AND having obsolete parts. Take the good with the bad...

Rossi revolver replacement update.

Well, after a few weeks of back and forth with Taurus and paperwork not getting to the right department. I finally got my replacement revolver, a Taurus 605 was my only option. I was told they wouldn't give me a stainless model but I got a stainless anyway. It sure isn't like my Rossi I sent in. Seems like an ok revolver but not even close to the Rossi 971 I sent in. Oh well, live and learn about these recalls.

I haven't heard a word from them, but don't plan to send them my revolver.

If anybody is interested about this Rossi mess. Just heard back about getting my FFL transfer money back and the $50 inconvenience fee. Now, Taurus isn't sure anybody will be getting either of these moneys.

Just a scam, I guess, to get you to send the revolvers in.

If I ever get my shipping label, I will send them a box with rocks in it. They will be out the shipping for nothing.
