Joe,

Since you already have the lilgun, I see no need for you to even consider the 110/296, as from everything I have read, lilgun will do what 110 does and then some. But you are correct in getting the 2400. It IS a must have! Not that it's all that much better than the others.....it's not. But it IS much more versitile. Like I said on another post. It's Unique on steroids.

Have you tried out the 4227 yet? I have used it for 30 years with good results, though I mostly used the IMR version until lately. It meters great and is pretty bulky so it fills the case well, smells good too! It wont get to the very top speeds like 296/110- lilgun, but will get up there pertty high. And with a revolver you dont get the little powder "stings" on your forearms and cheeks like you do with the ball powders. There is usually a few kernels left in the barrel after firing, but that doesn't bother me, I'm definately not a clean freak.

Wish I could find some powder locally. All my shop has is stuff I have never used before cause it's too fast for magnum pistols.

$15 FFL....wow. $35-50 around here!
I haven't tried it yet but will load a few rounds tomorrow with all being 300 gr, Freedom Arms JSP, Sierra JSP, Hornady FTX/Mag and Hornady FTX. I will probably hit the range with my 454 Friday or Saturday. I'll also be taking my R92 along also as I put new sights on it and need to sight it in. I have no urge to even try H110/W296 but do use Lil'Gun and also want to try some 2400 with it also so will probably load some of them tomorrow as well.

I figured that someone would make fun of me for saying that. Thanks RD. It really does have a slightly different smell when burned. Try it with a "SPIT" jacketed bullet, and the smell and smoke from the bullet lube will not spoil the aroma

RD could you make a smilie of a guy spitting in disgust, and make it come up automaticly every tim someone types the word "jackted"?

In that the forum has been a bit slow, I tried it. I think with a bit more coding I could get it done but it probably is not a real good idea.

I finally took the time to run a string of 10 shots across the chronograph for the nummies. H4227 is going to work real well in this revolver. Here is todays work...

This is the actual particulars of my load.

Let's see with 3 1/2 pounds of H4227 sitting here, that is going to be 1580 rounds of ammo! Might need to allocate another cartridge to using this up as well. I'm going to look at using H4227 in my R92 chambered in 454 Casull.

I shot 10 rounds loaded with 4227 behind a 300 gr Hornady JSP bullet through my Raging Bull 454 Casull. I found it gave me the tightest group of the others I tried which where Lil'Gun and 2400. I don't have so didn't try the H110/W296 though. Now all shot good groups and difference in recoil was really nothing I could tell much about, as they seemed about the same. I shot this standing free hand shooting not on a bench.

They had both the 296/110 however it isn't on my list of powders I really wanted. I'm not a fan of powder that only have a 3% margin of failing and working. Lil'Gun is a really good powder to me in spite of some of the negitives I've read on other boards about it damaging forcing cones on some guns due to heat. I've not noticed any more heat from it than most other powders and it has a wider margin of error besides giving me a great max load. The 2400 works in a number of different calibers including 45 Colt so if nothing else I could use it also for +P loads in my 9mm guns which can all handle +P loads. I did pick the IMR 4227 as it seems to be the most accurate compared to the others and that is what I found when I fired the 10 rounds with my raging bull in 454 Casull. I'm now seriously finding a R92 in 454 also as that would give me a nice load between my 45 Colt and 45-70 besides having a hand gun to match it now.
