Shot my Taurus Raging Bull 454 Casull today

Post by joec »

Well got a chance to go to the range and fire the 454 hand cannon today. Well I fired 20 rounds of factory ammo, Magtech 260 gr JFP bullets, 5 rounds of my own loads using 30gr of Lil'Gun behind a 300 gr Freedom Arms JFP bullet and 5 rounds of Ranch Dog's 290 gr bullet in 45 Colt cases with 25 gr of Lil'Gun. Accuracy with the Magtech was OK for factory ammo at 25 yards (in door range), however the 300 gr was all in a 3" circle center mass on the target as was the Ranch Dog bullets. All shooting was standing free hand which isn't bad for me considering it is the largest heavies hand gun I've ever shot. Recoil though strong was manageable and felt no real difference between the factory and my own. Only problem was the Magtech brass was hard to get out the first 5 rounds after firing but did get easier the more the gun was fired. Very happy with both of my loads. I forgot and left the targets there so no picture of it. Oh and the gun is the 6.5" barrel Raging Bull in stainless steel.

Take off the weight of the 6" barrel and feel the recoil then. I think it would be flat painful as this is about as big a hand canon as want to shoot and 30 rounds was my limit too.
