Impossible to use open sights

So I decided to take the scope off my R44 single shot 44 mag and the rear sight is so far back there is no way to shoot it? So scope only? Even an after market sight would have same effect?

If the gun is in high regard to you have a gunsmith cut a dovetail into your barrel in a similar position to a rifle you have used and liked. Another option is to find a drill and tap rear sight base and place it to your liking. Some guns are limited on options I'm just brainstorming is all.

Before I even had time to measure the old rear sight, I sold it as well as a spare T/C sight I had laying around. Decided I would take the scope base off and purchase a WGRS peep, but one of the screws holding the mount on would not come out. Suggestions?? I have heard Rem 700 sights will fit, I'm also gonna try putting this cheap eBay sight on the scope base and go from therr

This sight seems like it would be pretty high given that is sits up on the scope base. How did it work out?

Haven't tried it out, got a good deal on a Williams peep WGRS that will be coming in the mail soon. Bad news as two scope mount screws are stripped and won't come out, need advice. Wish I would have kept scope that came with it, but I sold it

Did you heat the mount screws (soldering iron or wood burner, maybe even a heat gun) to break any locking compound before trying to take them out?

I don't know if you can get the screw out with an easy out or if you might be able to glue a driver rod into the stripped recess to remove the screw if any locking compound is broken.
IF it's rusted or corroded in place that's a different problem. Glue probably won't work at all.
MOST mount fasteners are really small and your options are probably limited.
A good smith may be the way to go and could be worth the expense as long as he doesn't create more problems.

When you say "stripped" do you mean that the slotted heads have failed or are the screws turning with no results?

I agree with Archer, not many options but best left to a competent gunsmith.

I have same issue, but when I put a new barrel on my favorite I had Gun Smith cut dove tail about 8 inches forward, wow, love it.

As you can tell I got three of four out, I'm so ticked I may just get a hacksaw. Not many competent gunsmith around here. Being the backwoods I am just trying to make it a Phillips head! Should have left scope that worked on it
